The Boston Celtics are a professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Their 16 NBA championships are the most for any NBA franchise. The Celtics were formed in 1946 as a team in the Basketball Association of America, and became part of the National Basketball Association after the merger of the BAA and the National Basketball League to form the NBA in the fall of 1949. The Celtics struggled during their early years, but the hiring of Coach Red Auerbach changed their fortunes. One of the first major players to join the Celtics was Bob Cousy, whom Auerbach initially refused to draft. Cousy eventually became the property of the Chicago Stags. When that franchise went bankrupt, Cousy was acquired by the Celtics in a dispersal draft. He became a huge part of the Celtics' success and eventually became good friends with his new coach.

The Boston Celtics have a long-standing rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers, which is widely regarded as the league's greatest rivalry, as both faced each other 10 times in the NBA Finals, and won a combined 30 NBA championships. In the 1960s, the Celtics faced and defeated the Lakers six times in the NBA Finals, despite the efforts of Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. The rivalry was renewed in the 1980s, when the Lakers and Celtics won 8 of the 9 NBA Championships awarded from 1980-1988, and played each other in the NBA Finals on 3 occasions. The rivalry cooled off as the Celtics slipped into mediocrity in the mid and late-90s. In the Eastern Conference, the Celtics long-standing rivals have been the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics-Sixers rivalry in the 1980s was intense personal confrontations between Larry Bird and Erving.

In the 1980s another fierce rivalry formed between the Boston Celtics Face Ticket and the Detroit Pistons. The two franchises met in the playoffs 5 times between 1985 and 1991, and more than once there was a physical confrontation between a Celtic and Detroit's Bill Laimbeer. Their rivalry with the Lakers, cooled in the 1990s as the Celtics slid into a long decline. Boston Arena (1946) is the site of the first Celtics game where the parquet floor was originally installed. Served as a secondary venue during the franchise's early years, it is now known as Northeastern University's Matthews Arena. Boston Garden (1946-1995) and Hartford Civic Center (1975-1995) are also home arenas, which are occasionally used. TD Banknorth Garden was formerly the Fleet Center. (1995-present)

1970 was a rebuilding year, as the Celtics had their first losing record since the 1949-50 season. However, with Dave Cowens, Paul Silas, and Jo Jo White, the Celtics soon became dominant again. After losing in the Eastern Conference Finals in 1972, the Celtics regrouped and came out determined in 1973 and posted an excellent 68-14 regular season record. But the season ended in disappointment, as they were upset in 7 games by the New York Knicks in the Conference Finals. The Celtics rebounded the next year, defeating the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals in 1974 for their 10th NBA Championship. In 1976 the team won yet another championship, defeating the Phoenix Suns in 6 games.

Boston Celtics playoff tickets are available now! Watch the Celts on the road to the NBA championship title that is finally within their grasp! This has been a monster year for the lads in green, with their "big three" of Pierce, Allen, and Garnett scoring for fun while the NBA goggles at their power. Boston Celtics Face Tickets are the thing to go for now, as the Celtics have put the Eastern Conference title to bed, and are hungry for the whole thing. Recent results against the Washington Wizards and the Milwaukee Bucks have been up and down, but the Wizards defeat came on the back of seven straight wins, and the Bucks triumph was achieved with the big three sidelined by coach Doc Rivers, who'd decided to make his bench team do the work for a change. They came through with flying colours and the Celts emerged 107-104 victors.

Demand for tickets to Boston Celtics basketball has not been at its highest these past few years, but many say all that's about to change. There's been some moving and shaking recently at the home of the men in green. Boston Celtics basketball tickets are the bread and butter that keeps Boston basketball alive, and this year the Celtics were allocated the fifth pick in the 2007 NBA Draft in the lottery. This lost them any chance of drafting Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, and in many ways the fifth selection represented bad news for those hoping to sell tickets to Boston Celtics games. The Celtics had a one in five chance of grabning the first overall selection, not particularly good odds. They drafted Jeff Green with that 5th pick. The Celtics then traded him, Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West for Ray Allen, an All-Star from Seattle. Gabe Pruitt from USC was picked next, followed by the drafting of LSU guy Glen Davis. Heads started to turn, and the prospect of high demand Boston Celtics tickets reared its head once more in this ever-hopeful city.

But the real big news came at the end of July, when the Celtics obtained 10-time All-Star and 2004 MVP Kevin Garnett. This was the single largest trade for one player in NBA history, and the shockwaves rippled the entire sport. He came from the Minnesota Timberwolves, traded for Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green, and Sebastian Telfair. He joined All-Stars Paul Pierce and Ray Allen amid expectations and optimism in the Boston Celtics camp, and suddenly the talk was about Boston Celtics basketball tickets, and the Larry O' Brien Trophy. Could this be the year, after their long exile among lesser teams?

The Boston faithful, the people who buy the most Boston Celtics tickets, began to speculate once more about the possibility of rekindling those old rivalries form the glory years. Boston Celtics' long-running rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers, generally considered the league's greatest rivalry, was a major talking point once more. These two have faced each other 10 times in the NBA Finals, winning a combined 30 NBA championships. The rivalry diminished when the Celtics fell into losing ways in the mid to late-90s, but if you're a Celtics nut, you'll be feeling good right about now, as the team gains momentum. Go Celtics! Celtics tickets are flying, and hopefully the team will be doing the same this season!

 Boston Celtics History

The Boston Celtics had a disappointing 2005-06 season, but next year looks to be much improved. Boston finished 33-49 and out of playoff contention. Previously, the Boston Celtics made the playoffs for four straight years, but never made it to the NBA Finals. A very young and inexperienced team, the Boston Celtics faced adversity day after day because of trade rumors of numerous players and even to the best player on the team, Paul Pierce. They did partake in one of the biggest trades of the season sending Ricky Davis to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Wally Sczerbiak. The trade, in total, involved seven players and three draft picks.

Because Ricky Davis was traded, Paul Pierce was able to go on a scoring run reminiscent of Larry Bird. Although, they have yet to win a an NBA championship since Larry Bird, The Boston Celtics haven’t known success until the arrival of Paul Pierce. Pierce had a career season scoring more than 30 points a game throughout the season including 13 out of 14 games between February and March. The acquisition of Sczerbiak helped spread the floor and took away another player demanding for the ball.

Despite the changes on the team and the rumors, owner Wyc Grousbeck, GM Danny Ainge, and Head Coach Doc Rivers continue to support their team and their rebuilding process. With team captain Paul Pierce improving every year, and a young team showing signs of coming together, the Boston Celtics may post a better record than the 33-49 of the 2005-06 season. Players like Wally Sczerbiak and Ryan Gomes are expected to improve since Sczerbiak has an opportunity to work with the team in the offseason and Gomes was selected to the Second Team All-Rookie.

It may seem surprising to some that the Boston Celtics did not make the playoffs. They are part of one of the weakest divisions in the league, the Atlantic Division, which includes the New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Toronto Raptors. Only the New Jersey Nets made the playoffs, but the Miami Heat eliminated them, four games to one. None of the other teams in the division finished over .500.

In the upcoming NBA draft, the Boston Celtics have a chance to draft another player who can join their rebuilding process. The Boston Celtics already have one of the youngest teams in the league, but it looks to be all part of GM Danny Ainge’s plan. Boston had a 17% chance of obtaining one of the top three picks but ended up with the 7th pick overall. Some players who may be available to Boston in the draft are nearby standout, Rudy Gay of Connecticut, or Shelden Williams of Duke. Boston can benefit greatly from another successful big man or from the talent and
